«The 6th and last round of the Belgian championship was also held at the track of Charleroi, the original idea was to have this race at the track of Bierset but sadly enough the track had to close its gates for an airport expansion. Friday evening we arrived there, rain was falling out of the skies. Think the gods don’t like me or so, 6 Belgian championships this year => 6 times rain on Sunday or Saturday … Great! Saturday when the track was finally dry, qualifications had to be run. So I

The Portuguese Cup 2008 (Taça de Portugal), took place last October 5th at Vila Real Track.
Track conditions, were hard. Bumpy and with lot of dust. Therefore all the drivers had to make an additional effort to keep the car in the track.

Miguel Matías took the TQ followed by Merlin Team Driver Carlos Durães and Ricardo Monteiro.

Both Them, Miguel Matías and Carlos Durães were the fastest during heating, showing that they were one step over rest of drivers and that they were the favorites to final victory.

Track conditions for the Main final, were still worst than in heating. In the Main Final warm-up laps, Miguel Matías broke and came back to boxes, starting too late. Spite the lost time he took place in the final, showing a big competiton spirit.

Carlos Durães completely dominated the A-Final from the first laps, being very fast and showing a consistent and regular driving.

Team Merlin Sweden driver Per Ola Hard dominated the seventh and final round of the Swedish Cup Series over the weekend taking his 720 08 to TQ honours and race victory.

Racing at the bumpy low traction Trollhattan track, Peo was fastest in qualifying by 5 seconds and in the 45-minute final took the victory by a massive 3 lap margin.

The victory, Peo’s first of the 2008 series, helped him to secure Swedish Cup Vice-Champion honours. Having just returned from racing in Japan, Peo was quick to thank Japanese team mate Yuya Sahashi for the special «Japan S-720 setup» that worked perfectly at this Swedish track.

Ballymoney in Northern Ireland was host to the first ever Merlin Fuel Ulster Grand Prix on September 28th with nitro cars making a successful return to the once popular nitro venue. Organised by the Ulster Model Car Club, the GP attracted a quality entry including former Irish National 1:10 200mm Champions Chris Steele & Stephen Hayes, and British Championship race winner Mark Gilliland.

With competitors receiving a very warm welcome on their arrival to the track, many of whom who were making their first visit, the organisers also put on a very tasty complimentary BBQ for all the drivers and their mechanics during the lunch break.

In qualifying it was Steele driving a Kyosho that claimed TQ honours from Gilliland’s Xray. In the final the pair had a thrilling battle for the lead, swapping positions lap after lap, but a small error by Steele was eventually enough to allow Gilliland to break clear and take the victory. 2007 Irish Champion Hayes, also
