Spanish 1:8 Onroad – Final Round

Last weekend took place the 4th and last rd for Spanish 1:8 On Road in Club Arca (Madrid)

Merlin Team Driver, Oscar Cabezas took the victory, TQ and overall Championship.

podium_Madrid_ 1:8 on Road

Óscar dominated the race from the early beginning, being the only driver able to set 18 laps in the recently renewed Arca Track.  Moreover he won the 4 classifying heats.

However the Main final, was not as easy as the final result shows. Óscar had a flame out in the first laps, that made him change the strategy and even run out of fuel in the middle of the final. Nevertheless, his pace was so strong and consistent that he could keep the 1st position until the the final flag.

Motonica-Merlin - Spansih Champion 2009

With this Victory, Óscar claims the absolute title, after 2 victories and 2 second places.  It was a challenge for Oscar to win again the Nat Championship after having changed his car and engine. (Motonica – Novarossi).  So after some adaptation time he is again on top.

Josué Artiles, has finished on 2nd in both, the last race and the overall championship. In fact, both them, Oscar and Josue have finished the regular season with the same figure; 1.893 points. However Oscar’s worst classification was a 2nd while  Artiles worst was a 3rd. This fact gives an idea about the tight fight between both drivers that has been constant in recent years.

The Top 10 Result:

1. Óscar Cabezas (Motonica/Novarossi/Merlin Fuel) 146 laps – 45:12.388
2. Josué Artiles (Mugen / Ninja) 144 L – 45:07.313
3. Carlos Peracho (Sheperd Velox) 143 L – 45:04.494
4. Sergio Montesinos – 143 L – 45:09.572
5. Toni Mateo – 143 L – 45:13.833
6. Nacho López – 143 L – 45:16.219
7. Dani Vega – 143  L  – 45:17.003
8. Joaquín Villegas – 140 L – 45:08.358
9. Francisco Lara – 102  L – 40:59.886
10. Víctor González – 91 L – 39:43.929

So that, this year Merlin Fuel is the winner in the most popular Onroad scales, 1/8 with Óscar Cabezas and Rodrigo Pahissa in 1/10.

podium_Madrid_ 1:8 on Road

MArk Green wins BRCA 1/8 Rd. 5

Last Sunday the 1/8 BRCA Championship was held in a new facility near Brighton.

Here is the full report from Redrc.net:Mark Green wins BRCA 1/8th Rd5:

“Last weekend, the 1/8th Section visited a new circuit on the South coast of Brighton. The track is formed from a single strip of tarmac with the layout painted over with rope and plastic tubing forming the barriers. In theory, it looked from the outset that the track is too small for the modern day 1/8th chassis but after making the necessary chassis and gear ratio changes, the track became fun to drive. The track is also very smooth so running the car on low tires would help cornering, allow the engine to rev higher along the short back straight and through the infield with no worry of running out of fuel or the chassis bottoming out.

Saturday was a wet day and the track never dried out. A small number of drivers tried wet tyres and then retreated back to the hotels. Andy North decided to do some further testing to help learn the track and fine tune his car for the possibility of a wet Sunday. During the wet runs, a old Ninja engine let go on the main straight. A shattered Piston was the problem.

Sunday morning was greeted with blue sky and the track was drying out at a quick rate. In practice, Andy North ran another old engine since we wanted to save his best engines for the Worlds in Lostallo. We did however find that the Ninja had no bottom end power and so quickly changed this to a Sirio

with a 2013 pipe which then provided loads of bottom end power and made the car easier to drive through and out of the corners.

After every run, the lap times were getting better since learning the track can gain more time than consistently changing the setup and then getting lost. In qualification it was Mark Green again setting the pace. His consistent driving with a good chassis makes him a cut above the rest. With regards to lap times the other top drivers are only 0.2 to 0.3 seconds behind, but consistency is the key.

The top 10 after qualification were as follows:
1. Mark Green – Serpent/Novarossi/Merlin Fuel – 21 Laps 305 secs
2. Andy North – Mugen/Siro – 21 Laps 312 secs
3. Tim Wood – Serpent/Mega MF – 20 Laps 300 secs
4. Richard Hicklin – Serpent/Mega – 20 Laps 305 secs
5. Pete Hastings – Serpent/IDM – 20 Laps 309 secs
6. Neil Diver – Shepherd/IDM – 20 Laps 310 secs
7. Ashley Gouveia – Serpent/Mega – 19 Laps 300 secs
8. Andy Hastings – Serpent/IDM – 19 Laps 301 secs
9. Rob Coleman – Mugen/Novarossi – 19 Laps 302 secs
10.Karl Dransfield – Serpent/Mega – 19 Laps 303 secs

The main final was going to be an unknown affair, since we had not raced with 10 cars yet. The cars were started under the rostrum to prevent any potential crashes at the first corner. Mark Green led the cars away with Andy North again dropping back due to a rich bottom end needle, but he soon picked up speed and set about chasing the leaders down. At this stage, Richard Hicklin was 2nd and Tim Wood in third. After a few more mistake by Andy and after damaging a rear lightweight rim, he was out of contention for a podium finish and just concentrated driving the track hard to try and improve lap times. In the end, Mark was the clear winner over Richard Hicklin and Tim Wood in third, with Pete Hastings in fourth, Neil Diver fifth and Andrew North sixth.

The results are as follows:
1. Mark Green – Serpent/Novarossi/ Merlin Fuel- 122 Laps
2. Richard Hicklin – Serpent/Mega – 119 Laps
3. Tim Wood – Serpent/Mega MF/ – 119 Laps
4. Pete Hastings – Serpent/IDM – 116 Laps
5. Neil Diver – Shepherd/IDM – 116 Laps
6. Andy North – Mugen/Siro – 113 Laps
7. Rob Coleman – Mugen/Novarossi – 109 Laps
8. Karl Dransfield – Serpent/Mega – 104 Laps
9. Andy Hastings – Serpent/IDM – 78 Laps
10.Ashley Gouveia – Serpent/Mega – 21 Laps

A big thanks to all at the Adur Club for a very well run meeting. The next round is at Halifax. All the results and further images can be found on www.brca.org”

So Mark joins this weekend winning togheter with Robin D’Hondt, German champion and Ruud Schuitmaker (Benelux Cup Winner)

Robin D’Hondt takes German Title

The overall 1:8 On Road championship took place from July 8 to July 12th in Hildesheim south of Hanover.

Robin D’Hondt has sent us a report about the race:

“Here it is;

Last week the German championship of all regions was held at the track of Hildesheim.
Weather conditions from wednesday till sunday were not good. The track went constantly from dry to wet, so grip never really was constant …

so we all had little practice but the track had a very smooth line all around and after some small changes to my setup from Lostallo the car felt really good, smooth and reliable.

In qualifications i had 2 out of 5 dry qualifications, in the first Robert Pietsch had 23 laps in 5.13 and i had 22 laps in 4.59. In the last lap i ran out of fuel. (fastest lap 13.3)

In the second qualification i did get the 5 minutes and got 23 laps in 5.13, but Robert also improved his qualification to 5.12.
After qualifications Eric Dankel and Patrick Schaeffer filled the top 4 with 22 laps in a very low 5 minutes.

After the lower finals Sabrina Lechner, Toni Gruber, Armin Baier, Andreas Hammerl, Karl-Heinz Meister and Lennart Skornia joined us in the final.

After the start of the final i was hanging third behind Patrick, but for him the race ended when he hitted the fence at the end of the straight. Also trouble came for Robert with a broken glowplug he lost 3 laps. From then on i was on first position in the final and like this it stayed till the end. The final became a bit interesting when rain started to come (enough the make the track just a little bit slippery). To have no suprises like suddenly loose all steering in certain corners i was playing safe and holded my throttle back a little in corners that normally were taked full throttle.

Also i didn´t change my tires after 20 minutes in the 40 minute final because first my meccanics wanted to be sure that no more rain was coming. Eventually they changed my tires after 25 minutes.

Thanks to my sponsors Motonica, Nova Rossi, ATS tires, Merlin Fuel, RC Car Colours and Technics Ghiant, LRP electronics

And offcourse special thanks to my meccanics, my dad Rony D´hondt and Franky Noens, for the very fast tire stop, refueling and giving me information during the race

.

Cya in Lostallo
Robin”

The final Results:

1. Robin D´Hondt, 169 laps – Motonica / Novarossi / ATS/Merlin Fuel
2. Robert Pietsch, 166 – Mugen / Novarossi / RPM
3. Toni Gruber, 165 – Serpent / Mega / Xceed
4. Eric Dankel, 164 – Shepherd / Novarossi / RPM
5. Karl-Heinz Meister, 161 – Serpent / Mega / Xceed
6. Armin Baier, 158 – Mugen / IDM / IDM
7. Sabrina Lechner, 156 – Serpent / Max / IDM
8. Andreas Hammerl, 135 – Kyosho / Novarossi / Matrix
9. Patrick Schaefer, 15 – Shepherd / Novarossi / Enneti
10. Lennart Skornia, DQ – Serpent / Max / Xceed

Congratulations to Robin and Rony for their fantastic Victory!
