6ª Copa Modelis – Leiria – Portugal
El pasado fin de semana se disputó la sexta edición de la copa Modelis en Leiría (Portugal) .
De forma paralela, se corrieron las modalidades 1:8TT y Truggy.
La clasificación tras las mangas clasificatorias quedó encabezada por Rodrigo Luis, segudio de Carlos Durães y Fernando Almeida.

Rodrigo Luis y Carlos Durães tomaron parte en la prueba.
La final fue encabezada en las primeras vuletas por Rodrigo Luis, pero un inicio dubitativo hizo que perdiera posiciones hasta la 4ª plaza, viéndose superado por Carlos Durães.
Sin embrago, Rodrigo fue subiendo posiciones y un fallo en la mecánica de Carlos Durães, le dejó el camino despejado a una victoria clara.

Last weekend took place the EFRA GP at Orihuela -Spain
The weather forecast was not the best for RC Racing. So just about drivers defied the storm at “El Palmeral” track.
This year the traditional Spanish “Copa de Campeones” took place simultaneously with Efra 1:8th Buggy GP.
The heavy rain was the main player during the first day. It allowed just one heating and calssfications Round.
Borja Hernández TQ’ed for the race, followed by Alejandro Candel, Adrián Pérez Mayoral and Carlos Pineda closing the top-quartet.

Copa de Portugal 2008
El pasado 5 de Octubre, se celebró la Copa de Portugal 2008 (Taça de Portugal) en la pista de Vila-Real, donde se dieron cita los mejores pilotos Lusitanos de la especialidad.
La pista, que no se encontraba en su mejor momento, se fue deteriorando paulatinamente con las series, hasta quedar llena de baches y con mucho polvo. Esto obligó alos pilotos a extremar la precisión en su pilotaje ya que en estas condiciones, resultaba difícil manetener los coches en el trazado del “Alto Douro”.
Durante las clasificatorias, Miguel Matías fue el más rápido y se hizo con la pole, seguido de Carlos Durães y Ricardo Monteiro.
Los dos pilotos, Miguel Matías y Carlos Durães, mostraron que estaban un paso por encima de sus adversarios y se postularon como principales favoritos a la victoria final.
Sin embargo, en las vueltas de calentamiento previas a la Final el recientemente proclamado campeón de Portugal 2008 rompió y no tomó la salida a tiempo. Aún así, haciendo gala de la deportividad que debe caracterizar a un campeón tomo parte en la final, aún a sabiendas de que la demora con la que partía no le daba opción a los puestos de honor.
Carlos Durães dominó la carrera desde las primeras vueltas, no dando opción a sus rivales.
Por detrás le seguía un grupo de pilotos formado por Rodrigo Luis, Miguel Magalhães, Ricardo Monteiro y Fernando Almeida, en continua lucha por el segundo y tercer puesto del cajón. Miguel Magalhães y F. Almeida, acabaron rompiendo y Rodrigo Luis se afianzó en la segunda plaza. Carlos Durães, por su parte, se mostraba intratable, mostrando una conducción a prueba de baches regular y consistente.
Miguel Matías rompió de nuevo a mitad de la final viéndose obligado a abandonar.

Así mismo, felicitamos desde estas líneas a Rodrigo Luis, (8º clasificado del Europeo 2008) por su meritorio 2º puesto en su debut oficial con Merlin Fuel en el país vecino.

Portugal Cup 2008
The Portuguese Cup 2008 (Taça de Portugal), took place last October 5th at Vila Real Track.
Track conditions, were hard. Bumpy and with lot of dust. Therefore all the drivers had to make an additional effort to keep the car in the track.
Miguel Matías took the TQ followed by Merlin Team Driver Carlos Durães and Ricardo Monteiro.
Both Them, Miguel Matías and Carlos Durães were the fastest during heating, showing that they were one step over rest of drivers and that they were the favorites to final victory.
Track conditions for the Main final, were still worst than in heating. In the Main Final warm-up laps, Miguel Matías broke and came back to boxes, starting too late. Spite the lost time he took place in the final, showing a big competiton spirit.
Carlos Durães completely dominated the A-Final from the first laps, being very fast and showing a consistent and regular driving.
Behind Carlos Durães fighting for Honor Positions, Rodrigo Luis, Ricardo Monteiro, Gabriel Magalhães and Fernando Almeida were involved.
In the middle of the race Gabriel Magalhães and F. Almeida boke and had to quit the race. Also, Miguel Matías broke again.
So finally, Rodrigo Luis who was taking part in the race for first time as Merlin Team Driver, took the second place followed by Ricardo Monteiro.

Victory and TQ in Carcassonne, France
Jérôme Delcourt, took the victory last Sept. 21st at Carcassone in the South-West France Championship.
Moreover, Stephane Mateo, also powered by Merlin Fuel,claimed TQ Honors.

Victoria y Pole en Carcassonne – Francia
El pasado 21 de Septiembre, Jérôme Delcourt se alzó con la victoria en la prueba disputada en Carcassonne correspondiente al campeonato del Sur Oeste Francés.
Así mismo, Stephane Mateo, también con Merlin Fuel, se hizo con la pole en la prueba.

Portugal Nat Buggy Championship 5th Rd.
The 5th and last round of the Portuguese National championships took place on the 7th September at the Torres Vedras track; used for the RB Cup the weekend before. Miguel Matias wrapped up a fine domestic season TQing and taking his 5th round win of the season crowning him national champion for 8th time since 1999.
In the qualifications, the track was a bit bumpy and dusty, making in some parts of the track being very technical and hard to drive, but still Kyosho Driver Miguel Matias made the TQ, in 2nd was Cen’s Rodrigo Luís and followed by a surprising Pedro Figueiredo in 3rd(Xray), the qualifying were marked by Hong Nor’s Fernando Almeida problems with electronics, putting him in the back of the table.
The final went down with the track getting bumpier and dustier, Miguel Matias started from the last place, because he asked some time for technical problems, in the beginning of the A-Main everyone was packed together, trading places all the time, being very competitive, but Matias went with a superb performance till 1st place till the end, being ultrafast but using the MP777 instead the new MP9 (lacking spare parts), the 2nd place went to the young Carlos Durães ( With Merlin fuel and ATS Tyres ) with a awesome performance, being very fast and reliable with his Hobao, showing that he can be among the top drivers and fighting with them for a place, a real talent, in 3rd place was the young Xray’s Ricardo Monteiro being consistent and having the luck of Rodrigo Luis had flameouts,but still having the credit ,so Rodrigo Luís was 4th in the end.
The highlights of the A-Main was the real comeback from Miguel Matias, showing that he is in another level among the Portuguese competition, he started in last place and lap after lap taking places till 1st, then in 1st no one could touch him and the 2nd place to Carlos Durães, confirming his potencial and how fast he is, a real talent for sure!
Since this was the last race for the Portuguese National Champs, the 2008 Champion was Miguel Matias, winning all the 5 rounds of the Portuguese Nats, being always a step above everyone in terms of performance, now the Worlds is coming, if he can perform like this last round, he’s gonna be like evil fast on US track, fighting for the world title.
