Swedish 1:10 Championship Rd.2

Last weekend the Årsunda Track held the 2nd round of 1:10 Swedish Nats.

Our Team Driver, Per-Ola hard, took the final vitory, TQ’ed and set a new laptime record in the track.

He has sent us a  report about the Race:

“Swedish National Series R:2
In the weekend of 23-24:th of May the second round of the Swedish national series was held in the middle of Sweden in a village called Årsunda.

The track is very technical and nowadays a bit bumpy so demanding for both the car and the setup, so some of the drivers started to practice allready on the Friday to get to know the track. Myself and some other drivers arrived Saturday morning to a wet track after some light rain the evening before, traction was very low so it was decided together with the drivers to add a little bit of sugar water during controlled practice to get the track in decent shape.

Saturday saw four rounds of qualifying first three dry ones in good weather and the last fourth one unfortunately rained out with some light rain in the afternoon. Qualifying went very well for me as my Serpent 720 with a RB T9 engine worked perfect, I could put a new lapreckord and take TQ with a 7 sec margin to second placed Edwin Sunesson running a Xray/Sirio, 3:rd was Markus Hellquist with his Kyosho/Orion car. TQ in the 1:8 class was taken my Magnus Bengtsson running a Mugen.

Sunday was final day and the weather was pretty good around lunch time, I got a clean start and starting working up a good lead to the others, at the end of the final I could drive a little slower to save the tires for the end but doing this I lost some concentration and made some driving errors so I decided to push some more again to get the focus back. After 45 minutes of racing I could score my first win of the season, it felt nice! I won two laps ahead of young Markus Hellquist and 3:rd position a few laps behind went to my good friend Thomas Livbom, all three of us live in Vaxjo in southern Sweden racing for the same club so that was very fun too!
In the 1:8 class Stefan Andersson won the final with his Serpent 966 car, well done Stefan!

I would like to thank the local club in Årsunda for hosting a nice race.
My next race will be the 3:rd round of the series in Gothenburg Sweden the first week of June, this race will also be the Nordic Championsships attracting fast drivers from both Sweden, Denmark, Norway and perhaps Finland.

Thanks to my sponsors for their great support:
Serpent Motorsport, RB Products, Merlin Fuel & GQ Products.

Happy Racing,
Per-Ola “Peo” Hard
Team Serpent”

Thanks to Peo for the report and congratulations for the victory!

Robin D’Hondt y Merlin Fuel, campeones 1:8 Pista – Bélgica

“The 6th and last round of the Belgian championship was also held at the track of Charleroi, the original idea was to have this race at the track of Bierset but sadly enough the track had to close its gates for an airport expansion.
Friday evening we arrived there, rain was falling out of the skies. Think the gods don’t like me or so, 6 Belgian championships this year => 6 times rain on Sunday or Saturday … Great!
Saturday when the track was finally dry, qualifications had to be run. So I nearly had no practice time.
First qualifying suddenly my personal transponder didn’t work anymore … As I wasn’t the only one with a “sudden” dead transponder I knew it couldn’t be broken. But ok, after changing some setup things in the computer of the lap timing all worked fine again.
Second qualify my engine was a little bit to lean so I had to come into the pits. I drove 5th time because of the pit stop but I did have fastest lap time with 13.9.
Third qualify was driven on Sunday morning. Wet track … and like this it stayed the whole day.
Most people were packing up their stuff to go home. I was unpacking around 2 in the afternoon to drive the final. Many people with a weird look when they saw me unpack, but why not … the last race of the year. My position in the championship wasn’t gonna change whether I drove or not. Just wanted to have some fun but I do have to admit Werner Smolderen had to convince me to drive the final.
When the final was getting closer I saw that Tom Smolderen and I were about the only ones of the 1/8 F1 that were planning to drive…
In the Final Tom and me had much fun, I won the final and Tom ended up second.
So with 4 wins and 2 second places I am Belgian Champion 2008 1/8 F1
In the 1/8 F2 final youngster Daan Haling (son of my second pitman) won the race and is the Belgian champion F2 2008.
I want to thank all my sponsors for all they did for me during the year:
Serpent Motorsport, Mega, ATS tires, Merlin Fuel, Ghiant Aerosols RC Car Colors and RC Tech.
Special thanks to my father and Lode Haling for the good pitting during the whole year. ”

Per-Ola Hard dominates final round of Swedish Nats

Team Merlin Sweden driver Per Ola Hard dominated the seventh and final round of the Swedish Cup Series over the weekend taking his 720 08 to TQ honours and race victory.

Racing at the bumpy low traction Trollhattan track, Peo was fastest in qualifying by 5 seconds and in the 45-minute final took the victory by a massive 3 lap margin.

The victory, Peo’s first of the 2008 series, helped him to secure Swedish Cup Vice-Champion honours. Having just returned from racing in Japan, Peo was quick to thank Japanese team mate Yuya Sahashi for the special “Japan S-720 setup” that worked perfectly at this Swedish track.

Merlin Ulster GP
